show reviews of our own shows

it’s 4:29 as i’m writing this, so i am a bit tired, i just really wanted to put a little note up while the feeling is fresh. tonight we played with halfway to hell club and bastard cut. we opened up and played a little bit of everything. some tunes from the record, a pair of newsies and a old chop from the demo. it felt great, we enjoyed ourselves and burt hit his third decade at the stroke of midnight. big thanks to joey for having us. it was great to see hell club after a long dormancy, they are such an amazing band but unfortunately they don’t do enough. bastard cut played a bunch of new jams that all sound amazing, i can’t wait ’til they record in july. i will listen the shit out of those songs.

last week at beery’s was great too. penny winblood was mind blowing as usual because they don’t write music on the same planet as us. hands like feet are a bunch of really nice dudes that are tighter then we could ever try to be. and sister kisser are the nicest, funnest band ever. jokes out the wazz. they make it easy to smile when they do things like say “i can’t remember this part so ‘do doo dooo do-do do do doooo’” in reference to the guitar riffs they forgot. that’s just marvelous. that’s fun.

so we’re going to attempt to finish our two new tracks next week, or at least get a better hold on them. i don’t know what they’ll end up being released as yet, but i am excited to see it happen because they are some of my favorites.

our recordogram the taxes in texas is pretty much sold out on orange (at least from our end – i think mike has a couple left?) and the black copies are moving steadily. it can be purchased from a number of distros online or at academy records locations in the east village and brooklyn.

holy rusted metal, batman

like some other groups in the active world, today we were a real live productive band. we entered the basement and began the tracking of two new tunes. one is called “WxPxHxCx,” and the other has a name but i don’t know it. before today we haven’t all been in a room together in over a month. well actually i am deceiving you. i made it sound like that happened today and well, it didn’t. chris was working for the man or something along those lines. but anyway i’m happy to report that we have guitars and drums finished for two new songs. if we can wrassle ourselves up a marchino we’ll have this stuff done in no time.

oh so i also wanted to mention that a bunch of shirt orders just went out in the mail just in case you were wondering. due to the busy nature of “real life,” and the distance between me and where the shirts are stored i wasn’t able to mail out orders for the last three weeks.

speaking of orders, we’ve received a few queries from europeans asking where they can get a hold of our record. well to all of you from over the pond: the just a audial site has a flat rate international shipping option listed for all those outside the US. if that doesn’t tickle your fancy you can pick it up from itunes, amazon or myspace music. pretty cheap, too.

matt’s been involved with a few interviews lately, those’ll probably be posted in the near for future. if anyone wants to review a copy of the taxes in texas for their zine or something email us at es@justavisual.net

stay tuned for more progress and come to our next show.

LP IS DONE

Everything Sucks just put out a record called “The Taxes in Texas.”  They recorded it in their basement.  Don Fury mastered it in either a much nicer basement, a living room with a dartboard in it, or a converted pool house, or wherever the hell Don Fury masters things these days.  They had a hell of a time getting it out, but it’s finally here.  They’ve been a band for a couple of years and although they took their name from a wonderful record by the Descendents, they really don’t sound much like them.  Also, despite their roots in and affinity for a certain type of hardcore music from Long Island, they don’t really consider themselves part of any one scene.  They feel they get enough labels and stamps put on them at their day jobs and in their day lives so they don’t want to add another one.

This outsider sort of approach and mentality has drawn comparisons to numerous revolution summer bands, some other bands who played at abc no rio in the early 90′s, and some other bands who like using the word “post” before writing a type of music.  They like a lot of bands, but at the end of the day they’re on their own, sucking the cock of defeat.

The record itself is a joint release between Just A Audial and Dead Broke Records.  It has been pressed on 100 copies of clear orange vinyl, and 150 copies of black vinyl.  It features nine songs with subject matter ranging from being a middle class white suburban weirdo to quitting your upper retail management position to bum around all summer selling old records to realizing you’re on the dark side of twenty five without a thing to show for it.  Oh wait.  That’s all the same subject.  The secret fifth member of Everything Sucks posed for the insert photo of this record.  The first fifty copies will feature his autograph.

January Tour 2010

We’ve reached Sucksland again after our little jaunt across the Long Island. Our shows were fun, informative, and fulfilling. We’d like to extend a special thank you to Barrie, the Emerald City fellas, Joseph Michael Project, and Michael Joseph Dumps for setting things up across the board. Troublemaker covered Integrity. Divider is heavy as hell. Ice Age are a tight, tight band. Another Breath killed it like we knew they would (Jay shouted “Play the hits” a bunch and we chuckled). Sandworms were super sweet and kind of jangly. Go Sell Drugs are my new favorite people. Fat Lizzy covered The Heartbreakers. I believe Honky Horn and Bad Mouth wore hats. Despite some slightly technical difficulties, the entire tour was great and we appreciate everyone who helped it be great. Upon arriving home from Holbrook, Long Island; we came across some test presses for our upcoming record “The Taxes in Texas.” This officially means there is no turning back. It sounds pretty decent and we’re giving the ol green light. It’ll be available in roughly four places soon enough. Keep on playing those notes.

Sincerely,
Matthew, Everything, and Sucks

ps. Every band we love is playing at Mr. Beery’s Saturday night for Mike “good guy ’09″ Andriani’s birthday. Go hang out there.
